Technical Level Designer
Contractor Position
We’re seeking a Technical Level Designer to join our team for the development of an unannounced PC multiplayer RPG. We utilize Unity in conjunction with a next-generation multiplayer technology known as Photon Quantum, which enables unparalleled levels of game feel quality in a multiplayer environment. This dynamic pairing enables us to rapidly iterate on game content and systems, creating an iterative, gameplay focused development environment.
As the Technical Level Designer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the player’s journey through our PC game currently in pre-production. This is an exciting opportunity to define the overall game design on a small, tight-knit indie team, ensuring our environmental experiences are reactive, dynamic and rapidly iterative.
Location: Fully remote, able to work standard US timezones
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the conception and production of all components contributing to crafting environment as vital and reactive as creatures
Ensure that player toolkits are challenged with diverse pathways and ecosystem obstacles to reward and challenge diverse player builds
Prototype proof of concept gameplay spaces, including technical implementation of triggers, simple animated interactive objects and an eye for variation and permutation to reuse assets creatively
Take ownership of all level design features and workflow, to ensure both rapid iteration and high quality spaces
Do initial level design responsibilities during prototype and preproduction phases
Work closely with the development team to build tools for designers
Create simple one-page descriptions and drawings of interactives, rooms and gameplay elements
Leverage technical expertise to implement level designs
Collaborate with multiple disciplines, ensuring partners are involved and informed throughout development
Provide regular active feedback across all features and the game as a whole
Stay current on industry trends, including new game genres, design techniques, and audio-visual excellence
Qualifications:
3+ years of experience in level design, or an applicable combination of education and experience
Proven experience as member of a game design team
Experience with Unity game engine
Ability to level design spaces from conception to implementation in a clear, detailed manner
Familiarity with programming and scripting languages, such as C#, Lua, or JavaScript
A background in top-down action adventure level design
Passion for playing a variety of video game genres and titles
Preferred Experience:
Have shipped at least one major title in a senior capacity
Strong documentation philosophies and strategies to evangelize your designs
Experience with Unity C#, scripting and or visual scripting tools
